Locksmith Paris 5th arrondissement
The Latin Quarter is studios, top-floor former maids' rooms and shared flats around the Sorbonne, Jussieu and rue Mouffetard. The stock is old: plenty of lever locks or original cylinders on thin doors, and a rental churn that makes September the busiest month for lock changes.

What the local building stock actually changes
The Latin Quarter is a quarter of small spaces: studios, top-floor former service rooms, shared flats. Many doors are thin and fitted with an old lever lock, sometimes just a deadbolt, on landings where not every model can be fitted.
The academic year sets the rhythm: September concentrates lock changes tied to moving in, while lost keys spread across the whole year, often late at night.

How a call-out works
- 1
You call or message
Describe the door and the situation. On the phone, or in writing on WhatsApp, you get the price of the job and a realistic arrival time for your street — not an unverifiable promise.
- 2
The tradesperson comes and assesses
On site they check the lock type and the state of the door, confirm the least destructive method available, and have the amount agreed before touching anything.
- 3
Work, invoice and guarantee
The job is done, tested in front of you, and billed at the agreed amount. The invoice itemises hardware and labour — the document your insurer or landlord will ask for.
What doesn't change, whatever the area
On site in under 30 minutes, depending on the area
Someone sets off the moment you call — day or night, weekends and public holidays included.
The amount is settled on the phone
You know what you'll pay before anyone travels, and that is the figure you settle once the job is done.

You speak to the person handling your job, from the first call through to the invoice.
Everything is in writing before we start
A detailed quote before work, whatever the amount, under the French regulations of 24/01/2017.
Guarantee on our installations

What we do in the area
Frequently asked questions
Is a service room secured like a flat?
Not quite: the door is often thinner and the landing shared. We favour a sound cylinder and a reinforced strike plate over a heavy lock the leaf couldn't carry. The tradesperson tells you that on site rather than selling something oversized.
As a student, can I change the lock without the landlord's agreement?
For a cylinder, in practice yes, provided you can hand back a set of keys at the end of the tenancy. Tell the landlord in writing: that's what prevents a deduction from your deposit at the check-out inventory.
My lever lock is old — does all of it need replacing?
Not necessarily. A sound lever lock can be kept and backed up with a security deadbolt. If the mechanism is worn or the door too thin, moving to a European cylinder is usually safer and cheaper over time — you get both options costed.
In a shared flat, how many key sets are provided?
The number is stated in the quote before fitting, typically three to five depending on the model. Extra copies can be ordered; on a protected-key cylinder they require the ownership card, which stops informal copies circulating between successive flatmates.
